PSJA Early College High School Abygail Martinez signs with UTRGV
SAN JUAN, TX– PSJA Early College High School (ECHS) Swimmer Abygail Martinez signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at the collegiate level for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
Abygail is making history as the first Lady Bear swimmer to be recruited to UTRGV’s inaugural women’s swim team. During her tenure at PSJA ECHS, she has been an instrumental member of the PSJA ECHS Lady Bears Swim Team, contributing to their impressive streak of seven consecutive District Championships under the leadership of Coach Saavedra.
Abygail’s accomplishments extend far beyond the pool. Her dedication to excellence in both academics and athletics has earned her prestigious recognitions such as National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Academic All-American, Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Academic All-State, and being a top nominee for her Capstone Project.
She is also an active member of the National Honors Society and has earned an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College through the PSJA Early College Program.
Abygail expressed her excitement about joining UTRGV, stating, “I am honored to have the opportunity to stay close to home and swim for UTRGV. I am grateful for the support and guidance from my coaches, family, and teammates. This is just the beginning of a new and exciting chapter of my life, I am ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
