PSJA ISD Wins Sixth Consecutive It's Time Texas Community Challenge, Showcasing Commitment to Good Health and Well-Being in Line with UN Sustainable Development Goals

PHARR - For the sixth consecutive year, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) has been named the winner of the Large School District Category in the statewide  It’s Time Texas Community Challenge.

The It’s Time Texas Community Challenge is an annual statewide competition that unites cities, school districts, businesses, and organizations with the common goal of transforming their community’s health. Hundreds of communities across the State of Texas competed this year from Jan. 8 through March 3, 2024.

Year after year, PSJA ISD has risen to the occasion, demonstrating unparalleled dedication to fostering a culture of wellness among its students, staff, and community members.

Setting a district record with an astounding accumulation of over 10 million points, the district once again solidifies its position as a beacon of healthy living within the state. PSJA ISD has engaged in the statewide competition for several years now, earning 1st place in the large school district category consecutively since 2019.

Throughout the eight-week-long competition, thousands of PSJA ISD employees, students, parents, and community members took on the competition by participating in daily exercises, consuming more water, utilizing community parks, making health-conscious eating decisions, and participating in a community walk kick-off event.

In addition to the state-wide competition, PSJA ISD hosted its 6th Annual Healthy School Challenge where the district’s schools competed and logged their healthy activities. While all 44 PSJA ISD schools played a vital role in winning the statewide competition, the district congratulates the following campuses for winning the 6th Annual PSJA Healthy School Challenge and earning the most points in their category:

- Aida C. Escobar Elementary – 1,516,725 points

- Audie Murphy Middle School – 1,239,925 (5th year in a row)

- PSJA Collegiate School of Health Professions – 523,075 points (2nd year in a row)

“Our success in the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge for the sixth consecutive year is a testament to the collective efforts of our entire district and community,” said PSJA ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias. “We are immensely proud of everyone who contributed to this achievement and reaffirmed our commitment to prioritizing health and wellness in our schools.”

Through this achievement, PSJA ISD remains committed to empowering individuals of all ages to prioritize their health and well-being all year.

This accomplishment aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health & Well-being by actively promoting healthy lifestyles and engaging the community in wellness activities. PSJA ISD's dedication to fostering a culture of wellness among its students, staff, and community members contributes significantly to achieving this global goal.
