PSJA Southwest athlete signs to the University of Houston
PHARR – PSJA Southwest Early College High School (ECHS) Track & Field athlete Marcela Trevino signed a letter of intent to continue her athletic career at The University of Texas Houston (UH) in front of her family, friends, and administration on April 30, 2024.
Trevino, a standout athlete at PSJA Southwest ECHS has consistently demonstrated outstanding skill in Discus. Her discus throwing has earned her numerous accolades including District Champion, 2x Area Champion, 3x Area Qualifier, 3x Regional Qualifier, 2x State Qualifier,2x Regional Champion, THSCA 2023 Elite team member, Area meet record holder, and Discus school record holder.
Throughout her high school career, Trevino has been a source of inspiration to her teammates and coaches exemplifying the values of hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
In addition, Marcela has made an outstanding impact in the classroom, earning an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College a whole semester before graduating high school as part of the nationally recognized PSJA Early College Program.
Marcela has also earned a Phlebotomy Technician Certification through the PSJA Academies, is a PSJA Dual Language Enrichment Program graduate, has earned the Distinguished Level of Achievement with Collegiate Honors (DLACH), is a GO Team member, National Honors Society (NHS) member, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) member, is the PSJA Southwest ECHS Senior Class Treasurer and was named Pharr Rotary Club Student of the Month.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to represent a prestigious institution and compete at the collegiate level,” said Trevino. “I could not have done it without the support of my family, coaches, teachers, and PSJA Southwest administrators who have lifted me up and guided me to reach this milestone.”
